DOT Consortium Drug & Alcohol Testing – Owner Operator
What you need to know
Owner-operators of trucks in the United States must comply with DOT and FMCSA standards for drug and alcohol testing for safety and compliance. As an Owner Operator, you have three main requirements before you get started with your business:
-
Pre-employment test
-
Enrollment into a Consortium DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing for Owner Operators
-
Pre-employment query in the FMCSA Clearinghouse
How we can help you?
We at HD Screening and Laboratory understand how time-consuming it is to run a transportation business, thus we made compliance quick and simple for you. You can have the following inclusions and reasons for needing them with our DOT Consortium Drug & Alcohol Testing - Owner Operator service:
Pre-employment Urine drug test
Participating in a DOT pre-employment drug test is part of maintaining DOT compliance for truck drivers and owner-operators. This test is performed before a truck driver is hired and allowed to drive on the road.
Registration support for enrolling in a random drug and alcohol testing consortium
Because a random pool of one cannot exist, Owner Operators are required to participate in a random drug testing pool. When an Owner Operator joins a consortium, the C/TPA becomes their DER and notifies them when they have been selected for a random drug test or a drug test and alcohol test.
Pre-employment query - FMCSA Clearinghouse
The FMCSA Clearinghouse database gives details of a driver's driving record, including all drug and alcohol violations and whether or not they've gone through the return-to-duty process. This is to determine whether prospective hires have unresolved drug or alcohol violations that prohibit them from performing safety-sensitive functions.
This process is required before an Owner Operator can start with a transportation business and get their drivers on the road.
Query management
Owner Operators or employers are required to query the Clearinghouse each year for every driver they employ to determine whether current employees have incurred drug or alcohol violations while working for another employer.
